As of Jul 30, 2016, there were 628 Aéropostale stores in 48 states and Puerto Rico and 24 P.S. from Aéropostale stores in 12 states, and 328 Aéropostale and P.S. from Aéropostale licensed stores in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

In fiscal 2015, the company closed 49 Aéropostale stores and 1 P.S. from Aéropostale stores. During the first half of fiscal 2016, the company closed 159 net stores, including all 41 stores that remained in Canada.

In addition, the company announced it will close approximately 125 mall-based P.S. from Aéropostale stores by the end of 2014, restructuring the brand to focus on off-mall locations (including outlets), ecommerce and international licensing, and is considering the potential closure of approximately 175 Aéropostale stores.

All stores are leased. Most store leases have a term of 10 years, generally do not contain extension options and allow for termination after a certain period of time if sales at that site do not exceed specified levels.

Stores are located primarily in shopping malls, outlet centers and, to a much lesser degree, lifestyle and off-mall shopping centers. Most stores are mall locations near popular teen gathering spots, such as food courts and other teen-oriented retailers. There are also three street-level stores in NY City, including a 19,000 square foot flagship in Times Square. Aéropostale stores average approximately 3,900 square feet and P.S. from Aéropostale stores average approximately 3,600 square feet.
