As of Dec 31, 2016, Michael Kors operated 816 total stores (including concessions), comprised of 397 stores in North America, 199 stores in Europe and 220 stores in Asia, with 606 stores being full-price retail stores (including concessions) and 210 being outlet stores.

In fiscal 2016 the company opened/acquired 142 net new stores, including 47 stores in North America, 44 stores in Europe and 51 stores in Asia, comprised of 119 full-price retail stores and 23 outlet stores. During the first nine months of fiscal 2016, the company added 114 full-price stores and 34 outlet stores, net. For fiscal 2017, the company expects to add 7 stores in North America, 20 in Europe, and 125 in Asia (116 related to acquisition of the company's subsidiaries in the Greater China Region). The company believes there is long-term potential to grow its store base to 400 in North America, 200 in Europe and 300 in Asia.

All stores are in leased locations. Leases generally have terms of 10 years and do not have cancellation options.

There are three primary retail store formats: collection stores are located in some of the world’s most prestigious shopping areas, such as Madison Avenue in New York and Beverly Hills, and are generally 3,200 square feet in size; lifestyle stores are located in some of the world’s most frequented metropolitan shopping locations and leading regional shopping centers, and are generally 2,700 square feet in size; and outlet stores are generally 3,600 square feet in size. The company also operates concessions in a select number of department stores in North America and internationally.
