As of Oct 28, 2017, the company operated a total of 4,052 stores including: 1,219 TJ Maxx, 1,057 Marshalls, 660 Homegoods, 26 Sierra Trading Post and 3 Homesense stores in the US; 265 Winners, 117 Homesense and 72 Marshalls stores in Canada; 540 TK Maxx & 55 Homesense stores in Europe; and 38 Trade Secret stores in Australia.
During the fiscal 2017, the company opened 233 net new stores, and expects to open 250 net new stores in fiscal 2018. The company added 240 net new stores in the first nine months of fiscal 2018. Long term, the company believes there is the potential for 5,475 stores globally.
Virtually all store locations are leased and are generally located in community shopping centers. Leases are generally for 10-year terms with options to extend the lease term for one or more 5-year periods in the U.S. and Canada, and 10 to 15-year terms in Europe. TJX has the right to terminate some of these leases before the expiration date under specified circumstances and some with specified payments.
