As of Apr 1, 2017, the company operated 1,037 stores worldwide, comprised of 220 retail stores and 204 factory stores in North America, 184 locations (retail stores, factory stores, and department store shop-in-shops) in Japan, 300 stores in the rest of Asia, 47 stores in Europe, and 82 Stuart Weitzman Stores.

In fiscal 2016, the company closed a net 30 retail stores in North America, opened 19 net new locations internationally, including 13 net new locations in China, and opened a net 21 Stuart Weitzman stores globally. During the first nine months of fiscal 2017, the company closed a net 8 Coach stores in North America, opened a net 16 Coach stores internationally, and opened a net 7 Stuart Weitzman stores globally.

On May 8, 2017, the company announced it has signed a definitive merger to acquire Kate Spade & Company for $2.4 billion, and the transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar 2017.

Coach leases all of its store locations. Coach factory stores, averaging 6,043 square feet, are geographically positioned primarily in established outlet centers that are generally more than 30 miles from major markets. International Coach stores each have department store shop-in-shop locations and freestanding retail and factory stores, as well as freestanding flagship stores located in select shopping districts, which overall average approximately 2,081 square feet. Newly-acquired Stewart Weitzman stores average 1,571 square feet.
