As of May 5, 2018, GameStop operated 7,216 stores, primarily under the names GameStop, EB Games, Micromania, Simply Mac, Spring Mobile and Aio Wireless, with 3,864 video game stores and 1,377 technology brand stores in the US, and 2,035 stores in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and 10 countries in Europe.

During 2017, the company opened 46 and closed 367 video game stores, and opened or acquired 86 technology brands stores. The company closed 60 net stores in the first quarter of fiscal 2018. For full-year fiscal 2018, the company expects to focus on remodels and not net store growth.

All Stores are leased, and typically provide for an initial lease term of three to five years, plus renewal options. Video game stores average approximately 1,700 square feet and carry a mix of new and pre-owned and value video game products and mobile products, and Technology Brands average approximately 1,900 square feet and carry wireless products and accessories and, in Simply Mac stores, Apple and other consumer electronics. Stores are generally located in high-traffic "power strip centers," local neighborhood strip centers, high-traffic shopping malls and pedestrian areas, primarily in major metropolitan areas. The company targets strip centers that are conveniently located, have a mass merchant or supermarket anchor tenant and have a high volume of customers.
