In fiscal 2016, the company opened 22 new stores, and acquired 25 stores through the Sheplers acquisition, of which 19 were rebranded as Boot Barn and 6 were closed. During the first nine months of fiscal 2015, the company opened 11 stores. The company expects to open 15 new stores in fiscal 2017, and grow its store base by at least 10% annually for the next several years, and sees the potential of at least 500 domestic locations.

All stores are leased, generally for base terms of 5 or 10 years with multiple renewal periods of 5 years on average.

Stores are typically freestanding or located in or near power and large neighborhood shopping centers with trade areas of five or more miles, as well as malls and outlet centers, range 8,000 to 12,000 square feet, and average approximately 11,500 square feet.
