For 2016, the company plans to open 12 new stores (including 3 relocations), and renovate or expand 24 stores, for total growth in selling square footage of 3.1%.
At year-end, the company owned 181 buildings, including strip malls, professional buildings and free standing buildings, most of which house a PJC franchised store. In addition, the company sublets 271 store locations to other PJC franchisees. Leases typically have original terms of 10 years, with 2 to 4 five-year renewal options.
Stores are generally freestanding stores on corner locations or in strip shopping centers, in high retail traffic areas, with approximately 40% located adjacent to or in medical office buildings, and typically range from 12,000 to 14,000 square feet.
